Whatever He says to you, do it

Mary the mother of Jesus in John 2 vs 5 said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it”. When we read the story in John 2 vs 1 – 11, we see that the performance of the miracle of turning water to wine was dependent on the obedience of the servants. In verse 7 and 8 of John 2, Jesus gave them specific instructions and they obeyed , ultimately unleashing the miraculous. This reminds me of Matthew 21 vs 28 – 31, where Jesus narrated the Parable of the Two Sons. In this parable, we see Jesus differentiate between those who say they will but don’t and won’t but do . At the core of obedience is  the doing . 1 John 2 vs 17 says “ And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” The Greek word for abide is menรณ , which means to be held, kept, continually remain, stay. For something to be continuous, it remains and its cycle never ends. What God wants for us as His children is to remain, to dwell with Him in His presence f...

Stay in the race

Happy New Month!๐Ÿ˜Š It has been a while since I last posted here. Today, I have a short piece for you on staying focused. Be blessed as you read. Track is one of those sports where a momentary loss of focus could cost you the race. As you run, your focus is on the finish line not your opponent. Focusing on your opponent can take your eyes off your planned pace. It is the same thing with our walk as Christians. We are called to focus on the prize and to run with endurance, not on anyone else’s pace. 1 Corinthians 9 vs 24 - Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! Hebrews 12 vs 1 - Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us , and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, To run the race successfully and to win the prize, we must lay aside everything that weighs us down. Everything here includes worr...

Peace like a river

In this world, it is often difficult for us to find peace amid all the chaos. Worry is always at the door wanting to snatch our peace. Thankfully, we have a Father who cares and wants us to always remain in His peace. John 16 vs 33 says “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you [b]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” Jesus did not promise a life free of challenges, but instead He reassures us of His presence, His peace, and His finished work ( He has overcome the world ). He is explaining that to subdue the effect of the tribulations of this world, we must find peace in Him. In John 14 vs 27 , Jesus says “ Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” We also see from here that as believers, Jesus has given us His peace. The beauty about His peace is that it is not like what the world gives, it is lon...

Not eating and drinking, a new Kingdom

Hello there! It has been a while since I posted. Today, we resume our exploration of the Kingdom. Last time, we began to explore the concept of the Kingdom of God/Heaven – here . We said this Kingdom is ruled by Jesus and is characterized by a certain way of life. Today, we look more in-depth at this Kingdom. As mentioned here , for us to be a part of this Kingdom, we must repent and turn to God – Matthew 18 vs 3 - Then he (Jesus) said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven . This is because this Kingdom will never end. It is unlike “mighty” Kingdoms that have fallen or would fall. It is guaranteed to outlast time. An angel in a message to Mary ( the mother of Jesus ) in Luke 1 vs 33 said “ And he (Jesus) will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end! ” As Christians, we are to seek this Kingdom above all else – Matthew 6 vs 33 - “ But seek first the kingdom of God and His ...

Introduction to "The Kingdom"

Hello! Welcome to the blog!๐Ÿ˜Š Today, we will begin our exploration of the Kingdom of God. What is a Kingdom?  From the dictionary, a Kingdom represents a domain or territory. A Kingdom is usually ruled by a King/Leader. It is generally defined based on a set of characteristics/attributes and governed by a set of rules. For example, the kingdom of A could be said to be governed by King of A, it looks like xyz, and the people are abc. Similarly, the Kingdom of God/Heaven is governed by the King of Kings - God. It looks vastly different from the Kingdoms of this world, which is mostly governed by human wisdom and reasoning.   This Kingdom is centered around Christ. The people of this Kingdom possess unique characteristics that make them identifiable. Also, the Kingdom of God as with any other Kingdom is characterized by a certain way of life . Proverbs 14 vs 12 says - There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (ESV) We see from this s...

The Power of the Holy Spirit

Have you surrendered your life to Jesus? Do you believe that Jesus died so that you might be saved? If your answer is yes, then my next question is - How do you know you are saved? The bible says in Romans 5 vs 8 – “ But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us .”   Remember Ephesians 2 vs 8, which we referenced here . It says we have been saved by grace through faith. Therefore, this implies that we not only believe that Jesus died for us and have faith in Him, but we also know that we have been saved from eternal destruction. Again, how do you know you have been truly made right with God? 1 Corinthians 1 vs 30  -  “God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God ; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.” Romans 8 vs 15 – 16 says “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God...

Be Encouraged!

I have a word of encouragement for you today. Are you struggling with doubt, feeling trapped with no way out?  Rest in God's word - b e assured that His word and promises over that situation and your life will never fail.               Hebrews 4 vs 12 says the " For the word of God is alive and powerful . It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires ." 2 Corinthians 1 vs 20 - " For all the promises of God in Him  are  Yes, and in Him Amen , to the glory of God through us."  Numbers 23 vs 19 - "God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it ? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it ?" God can never lie, trust His timing - though it may seem like there is no manifestation, know that it will manifest in God's time. God's timing is never la...
